Welcome to Roses, a bay with 3,000 years of history. Roses is a town with Mediterranean essence and a strong tourist and marine tradition. It is located in a unique natural environment: at the north of the Costa Brava, at less than 30 km from the French border, at 65 km from Girona city and 160 km from Barcelona.

Its origins go back to the 8th century BC, with the arrival of Rodis people and the founding of the Greek city of Rodes. These historical facts turned into the identity signs of a modern, culturally active and generous population, the result of the coexistence with other peoples and civilizations, of which we feel very proud and satisfied.

Here we briefly describe some of the interesting highlights of Roses.

PRESENTATION: A Mediterranean town with a marked tradition in tourism and marine life. It is in an area of great richness in landscapes and unbeatable natural surroundings in the north of the Costa Brava.

HISTORY: The marvellous natural, geographic and climate conditions of Roses and its Bay have favoured human settlements from prehistoric times to the present day, from Greek colonialisation, Roman and Mediaeval settlements, that have left behind extraordinary archaeological riches.

CUISINE:  Roses cuisine, moving between tradition and creativity, is emminently based on fresh fish. From traditional dishes such as Catalan Fish Stew [Suquet de Peix] to Ferran Adrià’s most ingenious invention. As a natural harbour, Roses has an important fishing fleet that provides the town with fresh fish and seafood daily. Both the departure and arrival of the boats is a true spectacle.

BEACHES AND COVES: Roses offers a coast of contrasts with cliffs and hidden coves with crystal clear water, and fine sand beaches of an intense blue and shallow water ideal for families and for doing water sports.
